Run opensim – Install, Build, and Connect to Windows …

Posted March 13, 2010 by admin in Discover | 25 comments

Install, build, and connect to your very own local standalone opensim running from your Windows desktop. Create and preview content without Second Life upload fees or lag. Better even than using the SL preview beta grid, which is often unavailable.

Looked on the opensim site, and it’s WAY too cunfusing to find anything.
Any help? I’ll pay $10 to your paypal for a working answer.

The video is great, but from 2008. What changed and how does one get around it?

Hey Yeah that “Error: Could not open the requested SVN filesystem” has anyone come up with a fix for that?

  13. That´s cool – is it possible to double or triple the regular sim and prim size ?

  14. MaverikWinterwolf on March 13, 2010 @ 5:10 pm

When I run my compile it gives me errors. Anyone know of a reason why?

  15. I’m not getting anything out of the SVN checkout. Did anything change for it? I downloaded straight from OS site, got the newest version, but there isn’t an opensim.exe

CJCartoons, that didn’t for me either. What i did, was downloaded the installable package opensim 0.6.6 and everything was fine. (thanks imohax for the help). Now i can have fun with 0% lag and no one bothering me. The only thing is… sculpted prims don’t work. Is that a known issue?

For people having problems with OpenSim.exe do the following.

    1. Search for OpenSim.ini.example
    2. Open it using wordpad
    3. Copy all of its’ contents
    4. In the bin directory make a new text document called OpenSim.ini NOTE it IS case sensitive.
    5. Paste the info you just copied into the new text document and save.
    6. Run OpenSim.exe again and enjoy.

Nevermind, got the solution. If you are using vista64, be sure to run OpenSim.32BitLaunch.exe rather than OpenSim.exe

I get the same No appender named error everyone else is getting here. Right at the end too, darn it. Anyone have a fix?

  22. christophermartin18 on March 13, 2010 @ 8:38 pm

im doing all the instalations now buti just want to check is this pretty much lke second life i got banned of sl and i realy liked it

  23. You need to save ‘OpenSim.ini.example’ in your bin directory as ‘OpenSime.ini’. I don’t know if this is right, but that’s what it told me to do when I opened it using command prompt.

  24. hello wonderful i was really glad to find it so easily i got the same error that Sparkbouy got “log4net:ERROR XmlHierarchyConfigurator: No appender named [NHibernateFileLog] co
    uld be found.
log4net:ERROR XmlHierarchyConfigurator: Appender named [NHibernateFileLog] not f
    ound.
Performing compatibility checks… Environment is compatible.”
i searched for a pre built version with no such luck soo i need help
